Farvie Syrah
Wine
Swinney Vineyards Farvie Syrah is made from select handpicked parcels of Syrah grown at the winery's Frankland River vineyard, planted in 1997 on ironstone gravel hilltops.
The berries are sorted and gravity fed to a French oak vat and two smaller demi-muids. Around half of the fruit is included as whole bunches for wild fermentation, building structure and texture while promoting bright aromatics.
The wine spends around 11 days on skins before it is basket pressed directly to fine grained, large format French oak, a small proportion new. After nearly 12 months of ageing the wine is bottled.
Inky red, Swinney Vineyards Farvie Syrah's defining feature is structure. Bold, savoury tannins frame peppery dark fruit flavours and excellent length. Cellaring potential is 12 years.
